medical coding

your career starts here

The medical coder major teaches students to use technical skills in ICD-10-CM and CPT coding to collect, analyze, and translate the medical documentation upon which physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers rely. The student will learn to interpret patient health information from the medical record to assign the principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures and assure that the diagnoses and procedures are sequenced properly to ensure reimbursement. The student will become skilled in utilizing computer applications and resources essential to completing the coding process efficiently.

Brockway Center for Arts and Technology is ready to meet this demand by training students in the medical coding program. This 30-week didactic training program also has a five-week externship in a health care institutional setting. Graduates of this degree program will have the skills necessary to fill entry level positions as medical coders. This course totals 1,060 hours in education.
